...just a California Towhee. However, I think this is technically the best photo I've taken since I started trying to sharpen up my skills and bought the new camera.
Very little noise, no blur, and that oh-so-cooperative branch that just helpfully draped itself in a perfect frame around the bird.
Any feedback is welcome (too dark, too light, should I crop out more of the branches, etc.)

I think that photo is fantastic, I wouldn't change a thing!
I don't think you should crop out the branches. Too many of us (me included) spend too much time trying to take pictures that look like the ones in the guide books - I think we should lace the bird in its surrounding more often.

Mmm, California Towhee. Never heard of that one.
I think that is a good picture with the bird in its natural surroundings and all in focus, especially the eye. Maybe a touch of brightness via Photoshop or similar but that's all,
