Random Birds

Just cleaning up a bit of the mish-mash of photos from the last few weeks:

Cedar Waxwing - after finding the small flock in the tree outside my son's school, I ran into another small flock a week later in the top of a pine tree near my office.  Since then - haven't seen a single one.  Maybe they were just passing through?

Male and female house finches enjoying a breezy day.

Male Lesser Goldfinch - who needs a hair dryer when you've got a good breeze?

My buddy, the Cassin's Kingbird, hanging out on the office roof.  I've decided to call him "K-Bird."

Black Phoebes are one of my favorite birds - they are so dapper in their little black and white suits.  I used to say that they wore tuxedos, but my son is adamant that only penguins can be "tuxedo birds."

And, the California Towhee...in this photo you can see that he is not completely drab brown.  He has a cinnamon patch just underneath his tail.

And some random flower pics...

...just because the colors are so gorgeous!

Your birds are similar...but different from what I see here in central Ontario. Who can resist photographing cosmos? Such a pretty colour!

K Bird is adorable, he looks as if he wants to ask you a question. We had a flock of cedar waxwings land in our holly tree one year (in our Oregon garden, in our other life). We watched them feed each other almost for a whole day and but then they never did come back. That year or the next. I asked a birder I knew and he said that unlike other migratory birds, waxwings pick a different route every year, so you might never see them again in the same place. At any rate, it was one of my favorite birding experiences ever.
