I just can't get enough of these gorgeous pendants. They make me think of all the summers I spent surfing or just hanging out at the beach while I was growing up. I can almost smell the surf and the cocoa butter. Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone! Posted by Hello

New Gallery Page is up!

Gallery of Sold Items

I should've done this to begin with, but what can I say? Just didn't think of it until now. I usually take any sold items off the website, but I've received some requests that the pictures at least still be available for viewing. And of course I always listen to my customers :-)

So, here it is. The "gallery of sold items" for your viewing pleasure. There would be a lot more pictures on here except that some of my older files were inadvertently deleted when DH wiped our hard drive recently as part of our ongoing battle against spam, pop-ups, virii, etc.

I know things have been fairly quiet around here recently...I've been distracted with some personal stuff and am still somewhat in "recover" mode from all that happened in April with the show and my grandmother's death and several rounds of illness since then. Plus, it seems Ryan has finally entered the "terrible two's" and that's been quite the challenge over the last couple of weeks. He's also entered the security blanket stage at the same time so now we have a very dingy, grimy, tattered blanket that has to go EVERYWHERE we go but is also the only thing he will sleep with at night. All other blankets, stuffed animals, toys, etc. are apparently poisonous to the touch and must not come anywhere near his crib. I know it's just a phase, but I'm getting tired of washing the dratted thing so often because it gets so gross each day that I can't stand to let him take it to bed that way. I'm also dreading what will happen if it gets lost or ripped, etc.

Anyway, that's all been quite challenging, but then again, this is what I signed up for when I decided to become a parent. I just hope I'm doing a good job LOL!

Still, I am finding a few spare minutes (VERY FEW) to work a bit on some new pieces and if I ever get them finished, they'll be up soon. I've got a new peyote tubes project in shades of pink, burgundy and green with accents of gold vermeil, african green jasper and some YUMMY pink chalcedony I found at the bead store yesterday. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect 3-strand vermeil clasp for it (that I can afford LOL) but it should be done soon. I've got a new furnace glass bracelet and a pair of coin pearl earrings that are done, but need to be scanned and uploaded and I've started the next peyote tube project (okay, okay, I have ONE tube done LOL). It's going to be in various shades of turquoise and aqua with silver accents.

The dolphin pendant I posted a week or so ago has arrived and is even more gorgeous in person!! I bought a seahorse pendant from the same artist and it arrived, too. I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do with these yet. I had thought some sort of beadweaving with the pendants as focal pieces, but they are so beautiful by themselves that I'm starting to think a simple silver chain or leather cord might be a better way to go, especially if I can find a couple of coordinating boro beads to link into the chain.

Lastly, I've been itching to do some more bead embroidery or bead weaving so I'm going to try to get out some of my dichroic cabs that I bought so long ago and see what I come up with for them. A lot of people seem to like my big embroidered earrings except for the size (they ARE big) and these cabs are much smaller so I can finally do some smaller earrings.

Oh, and I just won some great patriotic lampwork beads on e-Bay, too. They should arrive and get turned into a bracelet just in time for 4th of July. I might even have another sale to celebrate the holiday so keep your eyes open for an announcement!

Take care all!

I believe I've mentioned I have a serious addiction to lampwork glass and this dolphin pendant is a gorgeous example of just how far into insanity I've gone. Made from borosilicate glass, it's a stunning example of the great workmanship that American glass artists are exhibiting today. In the past, I've avoided "boro" (as it's called) because a lot of the beads I'd seen had a tendency to look like, well, internal organs of some sort. But, I've recently found a few artists who are really turning out great stuff and I'm excited to incorporate their work into my designs. So, look for this little guy (and some of his friends - the same artist makes AMAZING seahorses, dragons, bears, sharks and butterflies) in a new design on the website SOON!  Posted by Hello

It's Here!!!

Amazon.com: Books: Dead Beat : A Novel of the Dresden Files (Dresden Files (Hardcover))

Yes, yes, yes! It’s here! The latest book in Jim Butcher’s “Harry Dresden, Wizard” series is here and I’ve actually got a copy in my hot, greedy little hands! I went to B&N on my lunch hour and miracle of miracles, they actually had a book in stock on its release date! Okay, so I had to go talk to the information desk zombie and she had to get it out of the enchanted vault (aka the back store room) but still…I was able to get it today! And I didn’t have to pay shipping to Amazon.com! Woo hoo! Perhaps the karmic forces of the universe have decided to balance out that whole “kid puked on me” thing? It’s about damn time! Can’t wait to start reading it and if you don’t know about Harry Dresden yet, you can check it out on the official website:

Jim-Butcher.Com: Home

I think one of the things I like about this series so far is that although there’s an over-arching story, each book is a complete unit in and of itself so you don’t go crazy waiting for the next installment NOR do you have to re-read all the previous books when that installment finally comes out because it’s been so darn long between books that you’ve forgotten what happened before. Also, the author hasn’t seen the need to completely RUIN the main character. Are you listening Laurell K. Hamilton? I will NEVER forgive you for what you’ve done to poor Anita Blake – who used to be one of my favorite characters of all time, but now I can’t even stand to buy another book…phooey on you!

In other news, I just finished reading the new Pern book by Todd McCaffrey. I was a little hesitant to buy it at first given that it’s by the son of the original writer, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Although the flow is a little bit choppy due to the various timelines, Todd really captured the feeling of the early books in the series which I felt was missing from some of the later books. In fact, it was good enough to make me want to go back and re-read the originals (for about the zillionth time) except that when I went to my “Anne McCaffrey” shelf, those books are…HORRORS!...missing! Acck! So, I had to content myself with re-reading another of her earlier books, “The Ship Who Sang.” If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it!

It’s funny how I can pick up a book and get a vivid memory of when I first read it. I particularly remember the first Pern book because I found it in the junior high school library at lunch one day. This was during a period when a group of other kids had decided to make me there “tormentee” for the semester (why are kids so rotten?). They’d leave me alone if I was with my friends, but since we had this strange rotating schedule, there would be weeks at time where I didn’t have the same lunch period as any of my friends and I’d be fair game. I took to spending my lunch hours in the library instead of out at the tables because those kids wouldn’t be caught DEAD in a library (plus the librarian wouldn’t let them bother anyone in there anyway). It meant giving up lunch (because you couldn’t take food or drink in there) but it was worth it. Not only did I stay safe, but what had started as a mild interest in sci-fi/fantasy from reading “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” in elementary school blossomed into a full-blown obsession with the genre that continues to this day. During this time I also discovered Andre Norton’s “Witch World” saga as well as Piers Anthony’s “Xanth” books, Roger Zelazny’s “Amber” series and Alan Dean Foster’s “Commonwealth” books. And that was just 7th grade ;-)

That reminds me…I’ve got a lot more re-reading to do!

Take care all!
