Blog-o-versary!

Yep, it's my six year blog-o-versary! Hard to believe that six years ago today I sat down at my computer and wrote my very first blog entry.

How incredibly much my life has changed over that time period. More major losses than I would've ever dreamed possible, but also an incredible amount of personal growth and the acquisition of a lot of great new friends.

So, to honor all of that, I'm having a big giveaway!

Imagine that there are pictures of awesome beads here - I have been sick with the most wretched cold for the last few days and didn't get the photos taken. To spark your imagination, I'll just drop a few names: Round Rabbit, Lisa Peters, Jade Scott, BeResinable, etc. Clay, resin, lampwork and more!

**7/22/10 - Edited to add photos:

Happened to have a few of the photos in my files - will get more of the prize photos up as soon as I'm feeling better.**

**Edited 7/26/10 to add EVEN MORE PHOTOS!

And that's STILL not everything that's going in the prize package!! You NEED to enter this contest if you haven't already - BEADS GALORE!!**

And how do you enter to win, you ask? Well, I'll tell ya! Leave a comment telling me about the following:

1. How/why did you get into blogging?

2. How many blogs do you usually visit on a daily basis?

3. Are you a frequent commenter or a lurker?

4. If you leave comments - do you do so on every blog you visit or only when you particularly have something to say?

Everyone who leaves a comment will get one entry in the giveaway.

To get a second entry, post about the giveaway on your blog/facebook/twitter and leave a comment here with the link to your post.

Contest officially ends at midnight, Pacific time, on Tuesday, July 27th.

On Wednesday, July 28th, I'll randomly draw a winner and announce that here on the blog.

I'm looking forward to reading all the comments - and, since I'm only about 5 or so followers away from the big 200 mark, I may have a special prize for that 200th follower whoever he or she turns out to be.

All right - go forth and spread the giveaway news! Pics coming later as soon as my fever breaks. I'm off in search of my blankie and a good cold medicine-induced coma.

KJ

P.S. I promise all beads in the prize package will have been de-germified before I send them out!

OK KJ Here it goes...

I started blogging because of Belinda Saville. I contacted her and told her about my goal and she said she would love to read about it. So I tried it and now I'm addicted!

I visit all the blogs I follow when they post. So the number varies on a daily basis! they have become a part of my daily life, I LOVE my blogger friends

I do try to comment on all of them because I like it when I get comments. I get a boost from comments and I hope everyone else does too!

That was fun. Thank You!
Hugs

1. How/why did you get into blogging? To follow some jewelry blogs I somehow ended up with an account on Blogspot - and since my good friend and bead mentor Jen (of Jen Judd Rocks) said "YOU MUST HAVE A BLOG" I started posting stuff. Then Jen hooked me up with Lori Anderson's (of Pretty Things) Bead Soup party and now I am totally hooked. Obsessed would probably be the word my husband would use.

2. How many blogs do you usually visit on a daily basis? I read through all the unread stuff whenever I get a chance...either on my phone, when work is slow (if they only knew...) or on my laptop when we are watching TV at the end of the day. E-mail, Facebook, and Reeder are the top three apps used on my phone.

3. Are you a frequent commenter or a lurker? Somewhere in between, although more towards the commenter end of the spectrum.

4. If you leave comments - do you do so on every blog you visit or only when you particularly have something to say? The second one - and especially compliments on great work - I know I always love it when someone says something nice about my jewelry.

My first question...did they even have blogs back in the olden days 6years ago?

I got into blogging in 2008. I did a LOT of research, including reading Artful Blogging. That is what I want to be. An Art filled blog. I really set up my blog with the pure intention to Inspire. Not to sell or be my storefront (that works well for many I know, but not for me). I wanted to form a community. I think that I have achieved that!

How many blogs? I don't have enough fingers and toes for that. I love all my blogs like they are my dearest friends. I read blogs about creative businesses like Crafting an MBA, funny ramblings like Laundry Hurts My Feelings, and just about all the bead blogs out there (like this one!). I watch what comes up in my reader and then read the ones that interest me. (That and my day job is INCREDIBLY BORING so when I found blogs it was like a little slice of Dilbert heaven.)

Commenter! That's me! Probably with more info than you ever thought possible! So much so that in one instance recently I was told they would be posting my comments as a response follow up to the blog post. Funny! I take comments VERY seriously. It is about building a community and comments are a living conversation. I try to answer all comments as well (if you have an email set up).

When do I ever NOT have something to say?

You ROCK!
Congrats on your milestones, Kelly!
Looking for 6++ more years of carrying on this conversation!

Enjoy the day!

Well, let me be the first to say Happy Blogsoversary. Six years is a long time sharing your stash with us! I visit about 100 blogs a week, maybe more, if I have time. Lucky for me, I can do my reading during downtimes at work. I've only had my blog less than a year, so I'm in awe. Anyway, I'll go tweet this now and hope you are around many, many more years!

Do Be Do Bead Do said...

I'm sad to say that I'm not sure how to send you a link to a twitter post, so here is a link to my twitter, where you can see the post: http://twitter.com/SandiLeeJames

Cheers!

P.S. I am both a lurker and a comment leaver. Depends on my mood.

Oh I am the first one... Congratulations to your blogoversary. Ok, here are the answers:
1) I started blogging inspired by Andrews blog, plus wanting to get some feedback about my jewelry.
2)I would say about 10 or 12.
3+4)I am a commenter. I usually would say I comment on about 75% of the blogs I read, except if I do not feel like talking. Happens sometimes....
I am so curious about your giveaway. Thanks for sharing.

First of all Happy Versary !! I look forward to each post that you do Kelly they are usually very entertaining... And the BP is stunning... Love your new line of resin... So here are my answers...

1. Stumbled across it... always wanted to be a writer ha ha ha...

2. Um I have quite a few but daily maybe 5 maybe more...

3. Mostly lurker.

4. When I do have something to say and also depends on time contraints...

Alesha said...

1. How/why did you get into blogging?

I was in a really difficult place in my life, dealing with a chronically ill child. I needed some place to focus - on myself, on my needs, on my goals and desires...someplace to talk it out, I guess.

2. How many blogs do you usually visit on a daily basis? I am subscribed to 100s, but usually read about 50 a day.

3. Are you a frequent commenter or a lurker?

I do frequently comment.

4. If you leave comments - do you do so on every blog you visit or only when you particularly have something to say?

I only say something if it's really necessary - or if I've had a lot of caffeine before reading! LOL!!!

Thanks for the giveaway!

Happy blog-o-versary! I've been blogging for a couple of years now and began as a way to promote my beaded lanyards on Etsy. Since I'm a writer by profession I soon found that writing about beads all the time wasn't half as much fun as writing about beads and other stuff including life's daily pleasures and challenges, funny things, food, even some mini-rants. I've loved meeting so many talented artists and friends. I read six or seven blogs daily and try to comment unless I'm brain-frozen. I visit others, so I guess you could say I'm also a lurker. Get well soon!

Congrats on your Blog-o-versary !!!
I do not have a blog but I would love to someday. I have many ideas for it but my computer is a dinosaur and i'm lucky if it works long enough to get my e-mails.(Also
I do not yet own a digital camera for the same reason so I would have alot to learn.) I visit quite a few blogs regularly (approx. 12) and enjoy them very much. I often do leave comments especially for congrats or compliments or if the person needs their spirit lifted.
Thank you for the give away, Germs NOT included.LOL swopemelmel@aol.com

Gosh, I'm sorry you are sick. I would love to win your blog-o-versary prize. Congratulations on 6 years.

I read about 20 blogs a day, but I follow many more. I only comment when I have something to say, but I read the comments too.

Now, go drink some orange juice and get some sleep.

First off, I'm so sorry you've been sick. Summer colds are the absolute worst! Okay, on to the pop quiz!

1. I got into blogging on a whim a few years ago. I can't even remember why. I tossed around the idea of a food blog for a while, but sadly, my picture taking skills are nil and food blogging is a competitive sport.

2. I have about 300 blogs in my Google Reader, and I clear my Reader every day. Of course, not everyone blogs every day.

3. I'm a lurker but I'm trying really hard to try and come out of my shell!

4. See above for answer on this one, but I generally don't comment unless I have something to say.

I'll blog about your giveaway too!

I blogged about it! http://newbiebeader.blogspot.com/2010/07/big-giveaway.html Unfortunately, my blog is very new, so not too many people will see it. :)

Congrats on reaching your milestone! Woo-Hoo! I love reading your blog--it makes me giggle quite often. I'm a lurker and a poster. If something strikes me I'll leave a comment...I think I follow about 30 different blogs. If I followed more, I wouldn't have time to read them!
Feel better soon!

WOW! 6 years! Congrats on the anniversary. I went back and read your 1st post too. :) I like to blog as well, I have no idea how many people actually read it so I do it for me. As an outlet for sharing. Sometimes people comment, and sometimes they don't but my expectations are not high so when I do get some interaction it's a great feeling! I visit between 10-15 blogs a day and I comment only when I feel I have something to contribute. But it is fun to see what everyone is up to and how they spend their creative time. Happy Blog-o-versary!! Can't wait to see what the next 6 years brings for you! :)

3. Are you a frequent commenter or a lurker?

A bit of both!

4. If you leave comments - do you do so on every blog you visit or only when you particularly have something to say?

Only when I have some thing to say

Wow! That's a lot of questions! I hope I remember them all :)
I started blogging for fun when I was scrapbooking. When I started to make jewelry, I decided it would be fun to do get and share inspiration!
I try to visit all my favorites everyday, hard to when you are so busy. I do try to leave comments as often as I can, most of my faves have gotten comments from me and I leave then on new blogs when I have something to say.
Thanks!

Happy Blog-o-versary!

I enjoy reading other people's blogs and when I got into wire crochet I decided to start one of my own.

I follow nearly 40 blogs and the number grows daily! I read the new posts daily and sometimes follow links to new blogs from those!

I'm somewhere between a lurker and a frequent commenter! I comment if I have something to say!

I am sorry you are sick - no fun at all - on the good side - happy blogsoversary! I don't have a blog but do read quite a few. The first one was Loreli and she led me to others. I have a group that are my first reads and the others depend on my time that day. I both lurk and comment just depending on the topic/picture/etc. I do so look forward to Bead Porn on Fridays though - the best. Feel better soon.

Hmmm. Good questions.
I'll keep it brief:
I got into blogging because everyone else was doing it, and I figured it might be fun to keep an online journal.
I currently follow 207 blogs. YUH. I know, dat's a lot! Do I read them all every day? No, not possible. I comment when possible, with a full time job, I probably only comment on 1/2 of them. Sometimes less. I love blogs that have that new feature where I can click a box for Cool/ interesting/ funny- that way I can kind of comment without commenting. ok, that's totally cheating. I'm sorry!

I've been blogging personally for just under a year. I wrote a corporate blog before that and had been itching to say whatever I wanted, not what I was told to say. :)

I visit 1-2 blogs daily--usually I do a ton (~20+) on Friday or Saturday.

I leave comments most of the time.

I hope that by the time I am posting this, that you will be feeling better.
I follow probably a dozen blogs-some about beading, some about the business side of being an artist and a few misc. ones. A painter friend convinced me that I should start a blog. My blog, Linda's Bead Blog & Meanderings, is one month old now! :)

so sorry you have a summer cold.
happy blog-versary to you..6 years..wow
1. i decided that having a blog would be a great way to have a personalized website..i have a Ws.
but to change anything my wonderful webguy has to be called in..so my NES blog was supposed to be only about promoting my ceramic work.
the spirit rattle blog was just for playing around to figure out how it all worked..with the idea of deleting it later..ha
then Lori Anderson's bead soup party came along.
2. i follow more than i read..probably read a dozen or so every time they post.
3.i do try to leave comments, but also feel sort of intrustive when i do so..like what on earth do I have to say.
but after lorelei's blog the other day..i see leaving a comment is a good thing..
4. leave only when i have something to say..but i will change that..even if it's just a little hey there.

I started blogging after reading "Blogging for Bliss". I follow about 20 blogs and comment often, but not at every one.

1. I started blogging as part of trying to launch my own website/jewelry line. I still haven't launched a business, but I design jewelry in my spare time and share it through my blog. I still hope to be able to sell my jewelry in the future, but for now I just make pieces to share with friends and family.

2. I don't actually go to too many blogs, but I read about 20 through either google reader or Bloglines.

3. Since I usually don't read the posts from the actual blog, I only comment when I feel compelled by something I see.

4. I generally only leave a comment if I have something to say. I'm not purposely lurking... but I don't really want to bother people if I don't have something worthy to say.

Hi KJ. I started blogging because I recently decided to try to sell my jewelry

I visit about a million blogs daily. Just kidding. Its a lot though. I've been a secret follower of yours forever. We are both sigle parents, and you used to post shoes. I too, love shoes.

I used to be just a lurker, until I realized how fun it is to follow & leave comments. I am starting to comment more now, when I have something to say or when I really love a piece of jewelry show.

Congrats on you blogiversary. I hope you keep it up for many more years.

I started to blog because everyone else who has Etsy shops is doing it.However I still am rubbish at editing on my blog spot.Very much a learner so do bear with me.Hilarious attempt at setting up a slide show containing bits of my jewellery portfolio.I tend to blog about twice a week and share to Twitter and Facebook.I have only been blogging properly for about a month so have only a few followers.I do follow some other blogs including Lorelei,s blog,I also do comment if I feel I have anything to offer.I am getting into the habit of blogging regularly which is better. Thanks,Anne

I don't have a blog. I fall into the "technology challenged" group that doesn't own an ipod, doesn't know how to send a text message, etc. However, I do like to read other peoples blogs. I comment if I have something I think is pertinent to add, or always if there is a giveaway involved!

Oh good questions. Let's see how I do.

1. I originally got into blogging because I was a contest junkie and a lot of them required that you have a blog. Now I am so busy reading blogs that I rarely get a chance to enter. Funny how things work out.

2. That is hard to answer. I subscribe to them through my reader and I read them as I have time. I am usually about 3 to 7 days behind but I do read them all.

3.It depends on the blog. Some I joined just for info and I don't tend to comment as much there. On other blogs, I feel like I have become friends with the owner so I do tend to comment more.

4. Goodness, if I commented on every blog I wouldn't have the time to read them.`

Ok, here it goes:
1) I started blogging so my family, who lives out of state, could see what I was up to. This year I really wanted to start hit the blogging hard for our business because I knew I would be done with school, and only going for 2 credit hours now a semester.

2) I have my favorites in my blog list on my blog that I visit every day, and I am slowly building up my list again because my computer got a virus a few weeks ago and I lost all my favorites.

3) I love reading everything and if I have something to say, I do make comments when I feel I need to.

4) See answer 3 - plus if I really love the work (which is almost everyone's hard work) I will leave a comment

Congrats on your anniversary!

What a generous give-away...thank you!

I had a short-lived blog several years ago when I worked in PC, but life got in the way and I quit both jewelry-making and blogging. I plan on starting a new blog soon, now that my muse has come back from her extended leave of absence.

I follow about 15 blogs on a consistent basis, and follow links to new ones all the time. I'm not much of a commenter (being the shy, retiring type), but I'm trying to do more.

Again - thanks for the give-away!

Mellisa said...

Apparently I started blogging back in Jan 2006...I don't remember why I began... come on, it's 4 years ago, I'm lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast!

I visit 3-4 blogs on a daily basis and do my big catch up on the weekend where I probably hit another 20ish.

I comment when I'm feeling chatty and the post gives me something to respond to. I also tend to comment more frequently on the blogs of people who comment on mine- there's more of a connection and reason to comment then.

Unknown said...

1. I started blogging to help my customers learn more about the process I go through in making lampwork beads, draw traffic to my shop and make new friends. Mission accomplished...Lorelei is flying down this Friday for the weekend. Woot!

2. There are five that I visit daily because they're just that on top of their game for posting each and every day (how do they do that?). And probably a total of 10-12 that I visit total with the other wannabe-regular bloggers.

3. Frequent commenter on some and nothing but a lurker on others.

4. I don't talk or comment just for the sake of noting my presence. If I was sitting next to you and could nudge your arm before saying something, that's my comment

Paige said...

1. I started blogging to increase exposure for my jewelry...it was one of those things I "had" to do. :) I don't blog often...but I read them daily.

2. I follow close to 100 blogs, but not all of them post daily. :)

3. I'm mostly a lurker.

4. I only comment if I have something to say...if I really love what someone has written, connect to it, or love the photos they've posted.

I know it's past the deadline, but I could swear I left a comment last week - I don't see it here(??) I remember typing my answers.
I started blogging because I'd heard about it and was curious.
I read about 10 blogs on a regular basis.
I comment when I have something interesting to say, otherwise, I lurk.
As I type this (again) I really think I'm losing my mind!!
If you can add me to the drawing, great. If not, I understand.
