Katrina in the Garden

Nope, I'm not really here. Still down in Carlsbad enjoying a mini-vacation. At least, I hope I'm enjoying it. Can't really go wrong with a Four Seasons resort, though, right?

I'm writing this ahead of time and scheduling it to post so the blog isn't quite so barren while I'm gone.

I made a boatload of jewelry over the Labor Day weekend (yeah, I know, hard to believe, but I really DO make jewelry with all the stuff I buy - I'm just faster at the buying part!) Here are a couple of the items I made (more to follow later in the week):

I really enjoy Margie Deeb's color trend reports and recommendations. Somewhere on her website or in one of her articles, I came across her suggestion that lime green looks great with lavender, purple and cobalt blue. I thought I'd try it out to see if I agreed.

I'm pretty sure I do. Initially I had a couple of small shots of yellow in this design, but after fiddling with it for a while, I decided they weren't needed.

In a completely different vein (because my style remains totally eclectic at the best of times), I paired this darling red and white ceramic pendant with gunmetal chain links and vintage glass.

How cute is that kitty cat peeking out from behind the flowers?

Originally, the color scheme was just white, aqua and red, but I kept thinking it wasn't quite "alive" enough. So, I added the yellow. What do you think? Over the top? Or necessary element.

Of course, it would've been too easy if I had a gunmetal clasp to match, but I did have this sort of antiqued silvertone one which I think works okay.

And that's "Katrina in the Garden." (the vendor named the pendant that for the listing on Etsy and I thought it was cute so I kept it).

Since this piece is a bit outside my normal comfort zone, I'd love to get feedback on it - so give me your honest opinions, please! Even if it's not your cup of tea - I'd still like to know.

I like it!!! And I think you were right about the yellow. Love it with the gunmetal. It's fairly simple which I think works best with the colors. I like the Victorian style of the links. You did good!!

Hi, I think the pendant is really cute, and the necklace is well balanced, but all the colors together are a bit too whimsical for me to wear it (I love the more boring stuff :)). It is a really nice piece though.

Very nice! Love both pieces ... and your foresight to post before you post!

Hey there, lady-in-the-lap-of-luxury! I like the quirkiness of this pendant. It looks like a really old piece of pottery from grandma. I think that the chain you found really works with this more vintage vibe. Colors too. I think those two blue beads near the pendant distract me a bit, like they are competing. But overall I like the composition. And the colors on that filigree are so rich! Very nice!

Enjoy the day!

OMG! Those earrings??? AMAZING!!! I've been telling people for YEARS that lime green and purple/lavendar look amazing together, and it seems this year people are listening. :)

And the necklace??? Simply gorgeous! I think the little bits of yellow make it pop even more, and make the piece. Beautiful.

I hope you've had fun on vacation! :)

Hi Kelly,

I love what you are doing with all that bead porn! I recognize the beads and pendants from their time in the sun and I think you have done a great job, even outside your comfort zone. Keep yo the great work!

Oh, and I hope you had a fab-you-lous spa retreat!

I like what you did with the pendent and gunmetal but I am not so sure about the red flowers? It does have flare and I think others will love it!

Hope you are having fun!
