The Beader's 12-step program

Erin - this is for you!

1. I will not spend my grocery money/utility bill money/mortgage payment/kid’s allowance/ savings on beads.

2. I will not buy “a strand in every color” when I find a cool new bead.

3. I will not fall for every trendy new bead, technique, or supplier that comes across my radar.

4. I will not let my studio resemble a nuclear bomb test site.

5. I will not allow my studio to creep into three other areas of the house.

6. I will not attend bead shows just to pick up more beads.

7. I will not stock up on beading supplies just because they are "on sale."

8. I will not hoard my art beads because they are “too pretty” to use.

9. I will not let my beading distract me from fixing dinner...er...ordering pizza.

10. I will not stay up all night beading.

11. I will not buy every bead magazine I see.

12. I will not make promises I cannot keep.

And I've already broken at least 3 of those just today!

Well, the think about a 12 step program is that you have to WANT to kick the habit. I don't!! Someone said that collecting a bead stash is like contributing to a retirement fund. Yep, when I retire, I'm going to have PLENTY to work with, lol.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

You so totally ROCK KJ! (And by rock I mean granite, jasper and pyrite!)

I love this post. I will be printing it off and plastering my studio with that. I particularly like #8....I have that tendency. No more, I tell ya! No more!

If you can do it, I can do it. You are an inspiration my friend!

Enjoy the day!

I broke #3 a couple of weeks ago...My LBS had some cool shell and resin beads, and after I bought 1 strand and loved it, I went back and ended up with 4 more in different colors...I could have bought more - they had a LOT of colors...But, I managed to dig some self-restraint out from somewhere...

Don't let my husband see this!!!
he swears it's an addiction and that my beading friends are pushers-
doesn't help that we order beads in grams and kilo's and they come in small platic bags....LOL!

Carol - so true. And who really wants to be saved from their bead habit? Not me. I guess I haven't officially "hit bottom" yet. Probably won't, either, until the kid and I are living in a box under a bridge...with all my beads.

Erin - glad you liked my little joke. Am also glad to hear I'm not the only "art bead hoarder" out there. Why is it SO hard to use them in a design? I guess I always feel like I can't come up with anything "worthy" of them or something LOL! And I hate to tell you this, but I am an utter failure at the bead diet. I broke down and made three purchases this week. They were small, but I did 'em anyway.

Katie - ROFL! I've done that so many times, but then you know what is worse? NOT doing it and then deciding you want more or a different color and going back to the store and they are GONE! I say if they call out to you...they have to come home with you.

Marie - it's really for all of my fellow addicts. But Erin was the one who mentioned the 12-step program so it was my response to her.

Heather - LOL! Mine used to say stuff like that, too. Now he's my ex-husband ;-) But it gets worse...I ordered some beads one time from a company in Thailand or Singapore or something and you shoulda seen the weird looks I got at the Post Office when I went to pick up THAT box full of small plastic bags.
