Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy

Boy, have I been a funk the last few days or what?

Yeah, I can hear the earth-shaking chorus of “duhs” from here thank you very much. Also, I’m sure all the new blog followers who came here after being told to expect humor of some sort particularly enjoyed all the “Debbie Downer” posts this week.

Ummm…sorry ‘bout that.

Fortunately, I have good buddies like Erin to send me chocolate and Lorelei to give me sage advice (actually, she told me to “snap the eff out of it!” - in the most kind and caring way, of course, - which made me laugh) so I’m better today.

Also, I have two amusing kid sayings and a “gee is Kelly a dumb blonde” story AND new jewelry to talk about.

Wheeeeeee!

I can tell you are all giddy with excitement and I don’t blame you. It’s quality entertainment over here at the new and improved “All Happiness, All The Time” (now with extra cheeriness added) blog.

Amusing Kid Saying #1:
Last night, the kid was having trouble saying the word “junior.” It’s not that he doesn’t know how to say it, he was just having some momentary difficulties getting it out correctly. So, I asked him “how come you’re having so much trouble with that word tonight?” His response: “Because, mom, I am messed up in my mind.”

Now, I DARE you not to laugh at that!

Amusing Kid Saying #2:
When I was a kid, my mom used to use the phrase “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed” to describe kids who were wide awake and ready for the day early in the morning. I’m not sure if being compared to a panicked squirrel is really a compliment, but it’s one of those mom-phrases that stuck in my head (don’t you hate those moments when you realize that you sound exactly like your parents even though you swore you never would?) and I’ve used it with my own son on the rare occasions that he is actually already awake when I go in his room on school mornings. This morning I entered his room and turned on the light.

(Hermit crab side note – when I turned on the light, I scared the bejeebus out of Talkie who, unbeknownst to me, was crawling up the back wall of the crabitat at the time. She responded in typical hermit crab fashion which was to quickly jerk all of her legs inside her shell – unfortunately, her legs were what was holding her onto the wall so she fell. No harm done, but poor Talkie!)

Ryan greeted me with a half groan and the words “Don’t worry, Mom, I’m halfway there.”

“Halfway where?” I asked him.

“Halfway between bright-eyed and bushy-tailed” he said in complete seriousness.

So, of course, I had to ask him which half he was. Whereupon he enlightened me that he was already bright-eyed, but that his tail was not yet bushy.

Which I think I’m glad for.

Kelly is a Dumb Blonde Story:
I have this set of Brighton jewelry – a bracelet and a pair of earrings – that are kind of my “go to” jewelry for work days. And yeah, I know, I oughta wear my own stuff all the time for advertising purposes, but most days I’m in such a hurry to dash out the door that I just grab this simple silver set that goes with everything.

This morning, I’m getting dressed and I find the bracelet and one earring in the normal place I keep them, but I can’t find the other earring. I turn the box upside and sort through all the other jewelry in there and nothing. I check the rest of the dressing table, the floor, the shoes under the table and everywhere I can think of. No earring.

Plus, now we are late for Ryan’s school.

Again.

His teacher LOVES me.

Plus, I have to go to work without any earrings on which just feels…weird.

All the way to work in the car I’m obsessing about what could have happened to my earring and I’m replaying the night before in my head and trying to figure out what could have happened because I remember taking off both earrings so I know they made it home with me. Of course, I’m also late to work now and have an early meeting that I have to rush to set up for.

As I’m running back and forth between my desk and the conference room getting my laptop set up, etc., I feel something brush against my wrist. I look down and there is my $(#)&&?!#*^! earring stuck INSIDE MY WATCHBAND! It’s been there since I put my watch on this morning!

I just stood there in the hallway and laughed.

Several co-workers passed by and stared at me and muttered under their breath. I can guess what they were saying, too. “That Kelly – she’s finally lost it.”

But, I got my earring back so I will look fetching when they come to cart me off to the looney bin.

And lastly, I did manage to get a necklace made this week:

This gorgeous pendant is from Dot Winchell at Winchell Clay Works on Etsy.

It made me think of snow-covered branches against a winter sky so I grabbed all kinds of icy-themed beads to go with it: shiny aqua ceramic rounds, carved white jade flowers, silver ceramic cornflake disks, white pearls, clear crystal quartz and some aqua glass rondelles. It was a little too pale that way so I added some depth with the iris green coin pearls.

The picture is crap because I had to use my scanner – too dark to take pics outside last night. I’ll get better pics taken over the weekend, but I couldn’t wait to post it.

Have a good (and more cheerful!) day, everyone!

KJ

I think it's your sense of humor that will get you through the "funky" times. You're kid sounds adorable. I'm glad to hear his tail wasn't quite bushy yet!!
Keep your chin up!

I was POSITIVE you were going to say that you hadn't taken the other one out the night before, so it's not as bad as it could have been.

LOVE what you did with the pendant!

Glad you didn't lose your earring when it was hooked on your watch band. Once I couldn't find an earring and it was hooked on the necklace pendant the whole time, I guess it just looked like another dangle to me. Take care, I think your on the right track because laughter truely is the best med.

I love your blog - it just brightens my day. What a kid you have!! You found the earring - that's the important thing - not that they think you are ready for the lunny(sp)bin - aren't we all?!!

OMG, ROFLOL! You are just too freakin' funny. The kid stories kill me! Thank you, Kelly. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a really long time. I had tears in my eyes! Seriously, I couldn't even read the rest of your post because I just kept laughing and tears were flowing and the screen was all blurry.

That kid is too funny! I love it that his tail is not yet "bushy"...just give it a few years!
I have often thought of having spare jewelry stuck in odd places I might encounter... like the pencil drawer at work, or under the seat of my car... just in case of such an accessory emergency!
Glad you got your mojo back. But, I think we would love you just the same!
Enjoy the day!
